How to Make More Money and Attain Success: The perspective of a health professional

In my late teens and twenties, I truly believed making more money had much to do with hard work and working smart.  This mantra was expounded in most business books.  One popular author, “Robert Kiyosaki” from Rich Dad Poor Dad, said that anybody can do it – be successful that is.  Well, I’m beginning to question this theory.

I believe that success has much to do with working hard and of course working smart.  But as I get older, I am realizing that there are other factors that are just as important to attain success.  These factors can be summed up in two words – “health optimization”.  I have done a lot of thinking on this topic because I have suffered from hypoadrenia and until recently or the past year have realized how to solve this health challenge.  Personally, I have experienced the difference between being “optimized” and “not optimized”.

Statistically, 66% of Americans are considered overweight.  This fact makes a strong case that Americans are not “optimized”.  This health problem puts them at a severe disadvantage because it affects their everyday life.  It can severally reduce productivity in the work place.

What I will say is that without being your best or being in the best of health your energy and productivity will suffer.  This state of being will make you less responsive and simply just making it hard to adapt to a changing work environment.  In other words, when your health is not optimized you are at a disadvantage.  So how can we make life easier?

There are two ways to maximize your potential

The first way is eating healthy and exercising.  A healthy diet and an exercise program will give you a base or a foundation.  Once you have a sturdy foundation you can begin to maximize your true potential.  If you’re interested in free health tips and articles feel free to go to my website at:

The second way is addressing any minor or major health issues.  I would define major health issues as life threatening such as cancer or heart disease and minor health issues such as insomnia, anxiety, mood disorder, depression, hypoglycemia, fatigue, or hormone imbalance.  Let me make it clear that the “minor health issues” are just as important to deal with as the major health issues.

Addressing major health issues are pretty obvious, but minor health issues that aren’t life threatening are really the Achilles heel of success.  For example, in my case I had severe hypoadrenia which causes fatigue.  Hypoadrenia will not kill me, but it does make me incredibly unproductive.  So, how did I fix this problem?  I found the right doctor.

The most important part of this process is finding the right doctor.  Most traditional doctors will not be able to treat “minor health” issues or at least not successfully.  There training is more focused on drugs and treatment.  A better alternative is to find a doctor or an Integrative Medical Practitioner that can use drugs, but believes in prevention, optimization, and natural remedies that don’t have all of the nasty drug side effects.

In Los Angeles there are many Integrative Medical Practitioners.  To find the right doctor in your area I would recommend looking online using the search terms “Integrative Medicine”, “Alternative Medicine”, or “Holistic Doctor” and the area that you live in.  For instance,
“Los Angeles, Integrative Medicine, Doctor”
By addressing any so called “minor health” issues you can bypass any stumbling blocks that life has put in your way and maximize your potential.  After you have figured out, understand and mastered any genetic weaknesses you will have created the foundation to be financially successful.

The Genetic Difference

As I review some of the great entrepreneurs of our time, I am beginning to notice a trend.  This trend can be summed up in one word – “Genetics”.  Genetics is the trump card that can make life easier or harder.

Let’s take Warren Buffett and Bill Gates as an example.  Both have an unbelievable amount of energy, mental clarity, creativity and ambition.  My sense is that that they both have fantastic genes.  They have great genetics like Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant, but their genetics are unique and specialized to suit the business world.

I would like to focus on a few biological factors that can differentiate the super successful from someone who is struggling in life.  If I had to guess, on a cellular level, these so called financial juggernauts have powerful adrenal glands and optimal brain function - specifically optimal neurotransmitter function.

The more research that I do on neurotransmitters and adrenal glands; I begin to see a trend.  More successful people probably have optimal levels of dopamine, serotonin, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and cortisol.  Each one of these neurotransmitters and cortisol (a hormone) play a super important role in day to day activities.

For instance, why do you think America loves coffee so much?  It is one of the most popular beverages.  Is it really because of the taste? Maybe.  But most people need it just to wake up in the morning.  Coffee stimulates epinephrine and norepinephrine which is associated with energy, motivation, alertness, and mental clarity.  It is no wonder why Americans crave these benefits.

I personally believe that super successful don’t necessarily need coffee to be motivated or to have energy.  For them, it is part of their nature and it is in their genes. Genetics definitely play a super important role in life and success.  Let me give you another example, I remember in college certain students that could study all night and cram for a test and still make an A.  I certainly was never one of those students. Now, I look back at all of the successful people that were former UCLA students, or some of my past coworkers at Merrill Lynch and Smith Barney and I begin to notice certain attributes.

They all had an enormous drive and energy.  I think it’s safe to say that they are genetically blessed.  I’m sure if they tested their neurotransmitters and hormones, they are probably well within optimal ranges.  I wanted to bring up this point that most of us can’t be Michael Jordon or Warren Buffett.  If this was the case, we all would be millionaires and super athletes. However, we can optimize our own health, adrenal glands, and neurotransmitter function by exercising, eating healthy, and addressing any health issues.

Actually, there is even a test by the company Sanesco which can measure neurotransmitter and adrenal function.

If you’re addicted to caffeine and have issues with motivation, fatigue, irritability, insomnia, mental clarity this test might be a good fit for you.

Conclusion

The point that I want to make is that even though you might not have superman genetics, you can still optimize your body and reach your potential.

Let’s face it, we are all on our own unique path and journey in life.  We are not all created equal; we all have different strengths and weaknesses.  Given these different attributes, we can accept them and learn the lessons we need to learn in our lifetime.

I want to emphasize that given a sound foundation; a person can attain success in all aspects of life - Not only financial success, but success in many other areas as well.  I would highly recommend that you begin the optimization process by eating healthy, exercising, and addressing any major or minor health issues by finding a good doctor in your area.

I am writing this article with great empathy for people who are struggling in life. I wish you the best of luck and I hope that this article can help you reach your full potential. J

**I realize that psychology can play a major role in “attaining success” but wanted to focus on diet, exercise, health issues, and genetics.  If you feel that your success is being hindered by certain psychological road blocks, I would highly recommend seeing a life coach or a councilor.
